Structure of DNS Belgium

At the end of 2012, the DNS.be organisation became DNS Belgium. We opted for this name change in the light of the forthcoming arrival of the new gTLDs .vlaanderen and .brussels that will be managed by DNS Belgium, next to .be.

 

The non-profit organisation DNS Belgium has the following structure:

Structure of DNS Belgium

  • The General Meeting consist of 9 members and is responsible a.o. for appointing the directors of the organisation and for approving the annuals accounts.
  • The Board of Directors (BD) is the most important management body of the organisation. It is made up of 3 members: 2 founding members and 1 effective member, i.e. ISPA, Agoria and FeWeb.
  • The Policy Council (PC) was previously called the Strategy Committee. The Policy Council prepares the Board's decisions or provides advice regarding topics associated to the organisation. It is made up of representatives of the founding members, the effective members and advisors with particular expertise in specific areas. The Policy Council is made up of 11 members.
  • The Strategy Committee (SC) consists of advisors with particular expertise in specific areas. A Strategy Committee was set up for each level: .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels.

    The strategy committee for .brussels and .vlaanderen is made up provisionally of government departments and DNS Belgium only. Apart from a few federal government departments such as the FPS Economy, the FPS Finances, the FCCU, CERT and BIPT, one seat at the .be Strategy Commitee is also planned for the registrars. This seat is filled by one of the registrar forum members.

DNS Belgium’s general director is Philip Du Bois He is responsible for the association's daily management and the running of the operations. He is accountable to the DNS Belgium Board.

The founding members of DNS Belgium are Agoria, Ispa and Beltug:

* Agoria is a multisector federation representing companies in the technology industry.

* ISPA Belgium is the Belgian association of the Internet Service Providers. ISPA Belgium currently represents the majority of the ISPs in Belgium.

Pierre Verbaeten

Prof. Pierre Verbaeten (KUL) is the former manager of .be when the non-profit organisation DNS Belgium was not yet created. After having transferred the management of .be, he remained closely connected with it.

At the General Meeting of 19 May 2014, FeWeb joined as a new member of the non-profit organisation, DNS Belgium. FeWeb is the trade federation of web companies. Feweb is represented at the general assembly and on the policy council by its president, Peter Ryckaert.

Fanny Ide (PC)

 

At the General Meeting of 13 June 2016, Comeos joined as a new member of the non-profit organisation, DNS Belgium. Comeos represents the Belgian trade and services, and sent Fanny Ide to the policy council.

 

 

Bart Mortelmans (BD)

At the General Meeting of 13 June 2016, Bereas, the Belgian Registrars Association joined as a new member of the non-profit organisation, DNS Belgium.  This is a newly established association of .be registrars, with Bart Mortelmans as representative in the policy council.

At the General Meeting of 13 June 2016, BeCommerce joined as a new member of the non-profit organisation, DNS Belgium. BeCommerce is the Belgian association of companies active in e-commerce, represented by Patricia Ceyssens.

 

Jan Decorte (BD)

At the General Meeting of 13 June 2016, IAB Belgium joined as a new member of the non-profit organisation, DNS Belgium. IAB Belgium is the professional association of the digital and interactive communication market, which sent Jan Decorte as representative.

FCCU

the Federal Computer Crime Unit. Part of the federal police department which deals with cybercrimes.

DNS

Domain Name System or Domain Name Server. The global DNS is the system and protocol used on the internet to translate domain names into IP addresses and vice versa.
